The night will include a panel speaking on the current job market and career transitions, networking, and year end peer voted awards for the Business Management Diploma Program.

Moderator and Panelists:

Moderator: Sam Thiara

Sam Thiara is a professional who has created a personal journey as a coach, speaker, author, workshop facilitator, educator and entrepreneur. His goal is to support others in their personal brand awareness and professional development and was recognized by the Governor General of Canada with the Canadian Sovereign’s Volunteer Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. An accomplished speaker and storyteller. Sam enjoys sharing stories with his audiences. Whether it is for professional development or personal enjoyment, Sam can captivate his audience with his life adventures. Presently, Sam is a lecturer at the Beedie School of Business and Fraser International College. His work is also reflected in the hundreds he has mentored and the thousands he has engaged. Sam is currently working on numerous projects. He bring various industry experiences in community relations and work with 45+ non-profits. Sam wrote a book on personal storytelling that emerged out of his TEDxSFU talk on discovering the extraordinary out of the ordinary. Panelist: Divinder Purewell

Having completed his degree in Political Science (two and half decades ago), Divinder started a career in recruitment as an agency recruiter and then ultimately a headhunter in my native London, England. Divinder has worked in markets as diverse as administration, education, medicine and finally the private banking and investment management arena. He emigrated to Canada in 2005 with my wife and two kids. In April 2007, he started working at TELUS as a Senior Recruiter and has loved every minute of the past almost 11 years.
So here he is with 25 years recruitment experience and a lifetime of stories.

Panelist: Shayna Rector Bleeker, Senior Consultant

Shayna is a strategic and insightful corporate communications and change consultant with 15 years’ experience leading strategic campaigns with multinationals, NGOs, media and government. She brings broad experience and networks from her MBA and design thinking studies, decade in communications with Shell developing innovative media partnerships and programs, and recent leadership role with the City of Vancouver. She has the unique ability to see a grand vision, and determine the steps and stakeholders required to get there.

 Her work focuses on systems thinking, dialogue and engagement. She develops and implements innovative and award-winning advertising, communications, stakeholder engagement and change management plans. As a consultant she brings quality analysis, an injection of ideas, a strong sense of design thinking, and effective writing and presentation styles.

Shayna is known by colleagues and clients alike as the person you go to for complex, high-stakes challenges, and she never shies away from making difficult decisions or proposing new paths forward. She mobilizes organizations to expand their vision and impact, and positions them as industry leaders and innovators. 

An expert facilitator and natural convener, Shayna is able to simultaneously gain the trust of senior executives, front-line staff, and wider community and partners. She activates networks to inspire and sustain change.

Extensive knowledge of startups, innovation, strategy, growth, marketing, and social media.  Passionate about entrepreneurship, education, tech, and on a mission to change the world through connection, communication and community. Panelist: Nathaniel Payne

Nate is a global technology and business leader with over 10 years of global management and leadership experience. Currently, Nate works as the Chief Architect for SSR mining leading intelligence, analytics and autonomous vehicle operations. Prior to that, Nate was the Global Analytics & Data Engineering Leader for Finning, and was the Senior Director, Analytics at Cymax Stores Inc. driving revenue, marketing and growth. Nate has a BBA from Simon Fraser University, Masters of Science in Statistics from Simon Fraser University, Masters of Science in Computer Science from The Georgia Institute of Technology, and is finishing his PhD in Information Science (Computational Archival Science & eDiscovery) from the University of British Columbia. He has also taught for 5 years at BCIT in Operations Management and 2 Years in the MBA program at Simon Fraser University. Outside of work, Nate enjoys skiing, running, soccer, coaching, and continuously learning.
